Community Development

Our community development programming strives to facilitate healthier, safer, and more vibrant neighborhoods. We work with families to address neighborhood-wide issues like crime, economic development, and access to resources. We work to bring together stakeholders in our communities to talk about their vision for the neighborhood and solicit their ideas about how to improve the neighborhood and its image. Some of our initiatives include:

Advisory Councils that represent Neighborhood Centers to the neighborhood and help connect NCJC staff with neighborhood concerns; Advisory Councils are available to respond to issues that impact the neighborhood.

Community Events such as clean-ups, hosting voting sites, and facilitating neighborhood parties and meals.

Community Meetings such as Southeast-side Strategic Planning Meetings, City Steps Meetings, and other types of meetings between neighborhood leaders and elected officials, police, and Iowa City Community School District representatives.
